The Ford Transit Connect is an abysmal vehicle.

The fuel economy makes no sense! I picked it up with a half of tank of fuel and the DTE read 67 miles. Now, here we are on the end of a 30 mile trip, 90% highway driving at 75mph, and the low fuel light is on with the needle above a quarter tank. It came on at 3/8 of a tank when it got to 50 miles to empty!

Both trip A and B have drive times of 35 hours and 500+ miles since their last reset and list average fuel economies of 13.8! How?!?! It’s a four cylinder! What does it weigh? 14 tons?!?!

Transit Connects where I am are diesel only. There’s a reason for that...

Because virtually all delivery vans converted to passenger vehicles have incredibly bad performance and poor economy compared to a specifically designed passenger vehicle. I assume it's just because fuel economy is much lower on the radar to most businesses (it's a small contribution to TCE compared to insurance, depreciation, driver salary, etc), whereas it's a superficially huge selling point to consumers. The passenger Transit Connect was a great idea, but DOA. And expensive!

I think it’s safe to assume they were carrying extra weight that didn’t help. Also 4 cylinder engines aren’t efficient if you have to ring the crap out of them to keep up with traffic. We’ve all seen the Top Gear (Prius vs M3) fuel economy test.

One of our subs has a small fleet of them and they're getting 23-24 mpg in mixed driving with them regularly loaded. I'm guessing yours is either f'd up or left idling a ton screwing up the on board calculations.

Theirs are probably diesels. This isn’t.

It’s an automatic too which isn’t going to help.
